A diffractive optically variable image device (DOVID) is a type of optical variable device. It is a security feature based on visual effects created by diffraction. DOVID can be implemented on plastic substrate which is used to produce identity cards, driver licenses issued by governments. DOVIDs contain micro- or nanostructures in the form of diffractive gratings. Because of these structures, they show variable optical effects like dynamic chromatic, holographic, and kinematic effects, two- or three-dimensional images or color-changing effects. These effects can be easily recgonized by eyes but difficult to copy.
